In December 1792, Elizabeth Middleton moves to join her family in the mountains of New York. There she meets Nathaniel Bonner, known to the Mohawk people as Between-Two-Lives. Elizabeth is determined to provide schooling for all the village children, but runs into resistance from her own family, as well as from local slave owners.
